Just discovered this podcast about a month ago, and I love it. I love the deep dives and the tangents, and I love listening to you discover all the strange things going on in space. Your lengthy podcasts have filled my daily commute with tons of nerdy joy and have my coworkers asking why I’m in such a good mood so early in the morning.
On the subject of 15 Million Merits, I never considered that the Bing’s view at the end might be false. To me, the view was showing that there is no real reason everyone has to live the way they do, but that they choose to. Everyone is so caught up in this virtual world that they ignore the real. It kinda reminded me of Fahrenheit 451 where the book burning wasn’t some form of censorship forced on the population by some dictatorship, but something the population itself wanted and developed over time. No one wanted to be forced to think deeply about things, they wanted to be surrounded by screens and shows where nothing made them feel too emotional in a negative way.
Also, if you’re ever looking around for more space news my default source is stuff by Eric Berger at Ars Technica (https://arstechnica.com/author/ericberger/), besides his own articles he also hosts the weekly Rocket Report which is a crowd-sourced report on the millions of things going on in the rocket industry.
